Here’s another one from me… This time, my home country. I’m currently restraining myself from exploding in anger.
Representing Country: Singapore
Human Name: Sasika Tan
Gender: Female
Age: 19
Gender-Bended Name: Alaster
I looked it up, and Alistair is a name used in Singapore, but Sasika is not. The only time I saw it used was for Sri Lankan names, and, of course, this OC.
Eye Colour: Light Brown
Hair Colour: Brown
Let’s get to the main issue at hand with this right now, that being, the OC is whitewashed to all holy hell. Yes, brown hair and brown eyes would be acceptable for a Singapore OC.
But she shouldn’t look like a white girl. Singapore is in Southeast Asia. Not in the British Isles.
So there is no reason for her to look this pale, and that discredits the entire validity of this OC.
Common Animals: Plantain Squirrel, Long-tailed Macaque
National Flower: Vanda Miss Joaquim
Religion: Buddhism
Cuisine: Ranging from as far as Nasi Lemak, to Fish and Chips
Sports: Football, Basketball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Scuba Diving, Water Skiing
Flag: A flag with two horizontal stripes, the one on the top being red and the one on the bottom being white, and a crescent moon is placed in the far left of the flag with a circle of 5 stars to its right. Both the moon and stars are white
Economy: Highly developed market-based economy, one of the world’s leading financial centers, along with Hong Kong
What does your nature look like?: 23 percent of the island is vegetation and nature reserves/protective centers. The other 77 percent is economic structures
Is there anything on your character that represent things in your land?: NOPE 8D
~~~
Well, the basic information seems okay. Not awful, a little Wikipedia-esque (and it does make me suspicious that this information was copied and pasted,) but overall, not awful.
Crush: England/Arthur Kirkland
Who Raised You?: England/Arthur Kirkland
Has Anyone Invaded Your Vital Regions?: Kiku Honda/Japan
Well, this isn’t promising.
I think I’ll just leave the rest to the submitter, because she puts it very nicely below.
Friends: Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, S. Korea
Family: Malaysia, Indonesia (I think this is right, and there is no specific relation yet. Just note that these countries are related to Singapore in some way)
Foreign Relations:
(FPDA) Relations with Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and United Kingdom
Stabilizing relations with United States
Eneimes: The closest thing to an enemy would be Japan, but they aren’t. Singapore is more afraid of Kiku’s superior, and is just a little jumpy around Kiku himself. So, no enemies recorded
~~~
Where were you in WWII? What was your purpose and who did you help?: Singapore was still under Britain’s rule, and was not independent at the time. However, she was a vital point of trade between many countries
What about some history before WWII?: Sang Nila Utama, the founder of Singapore, had thought he observed a lion in the area, and so he named the area “Singa Pura” which, literally, means “Lion City.” Ever since then, Singapore’s mascot has been a merlion.
Have there been any other wars before WWII that took place in your country?: All in all, it was a pretty peaceful country before then, so no
In WWII, were you helping the Axis, The Allies, or were you mutual?: If you consider the past history relations, you could say she was helping the Allies, but tends to be seen as some what of a mutual country
No, we never “helped” the Allies. We were Britain’s colony, and their defeat at the hands of the Japanese over Singapore was considered one of the worst losses in the history of the Allies. Help? I think not. She even glosses over our history with the Japanese. Also, the story about Sang Nila Utama is a myth. A myth is something that is probably not true, even though it is a popular and well-known story.
Relations: We have a relatively good relationship with America and there is nothing to “stabilise”. Malaysia, Indonesia, and the rest of the freaking ASEAN is very closely tied to us. “related in some way” does not even begin to cover it.
Religion: No, no, no, no! Buddhism is the most-practiced religion in Singapore, but she’s just skipping over the Christians, the Muslims, the Hindus, and every other major religion in Singapore! I’m a Buddhist and I know plenty of people who aren’t. Ignorance at its finest.
I have to disagree here. I feel like the dominant religion in an area and/or the religion that has had the most historical impact on an area should probably be the religion of the nation-tan. Now, does this mean that this is ignoring the other religions in the area? No. You can depict these other religions in the area somehow, and you can acknowledge them in a way that doesn’t undermine the majority of the population.
But it’s just logical to have the majority religion be the religion of the area, in my mind. Especially if that religion has a great impact on the area, historically and culturally.
Cuisine: We are famous for our food. One sentence is an insult to a huge part of our culture.
Dat ass. It resembles… bad anatomy. Why is she dressed so sluttily? Sure, we have unbearably hot weather sometimes, but it’s really only the shameless teenage girls who dress like that. And what the heck is it with that curl? She even states that it doesn’t represent anything!
I’m just going to interject here and point out the fact that the curl wasn’t even present in the first design. I don’t know if this was the first depiction or if the previous one was, but the curl really does have no purpose.
And as I’ve said before, if you’re going to have a shitty Hetalia OC, at least have a consistent shitty Hetalia OC.
Plus, this character is named Sasika. SASIKA. Is that even a freaking name? Oh, and why is she so pale? Sure, Chinese make up a majority of our population, but she should at least be tan, since the other major races are the Malays and the Indians. Eurasians are the least-prominent race in Singapore! And the common traits are hair and eyes so brown as to seem black, not super light brown.
*deep breath* Do not kill… do not kill…Actually, the title should be “Sasika and Male!Sasika”, but since dA doesn’t allow most punctuation marks, that’s what I came up with. Alaster, Sasika’s male counter-part, is a lot different (Mostly to make him look sexier )
Yes, that’s a GREAT justification for your OC’s awful design.

Also, what the hell happened on the right? Is that female even the same OC? Are we still even talking about this shitty Singapore OC?
But, the eyepatch is to cover his missing eye and scar, which was given to him by Japan when they invaded Singapore back in WWII.
I don’t like the idea of him missing an eye because of Japan, but I can definitely see him having scars. And maybe, if she were to actually talk about what happened in Singapore during WWII, it would be justified. Because…well, Japan did some terrible, terrible things in the Southeast Asian nations, with massacres and genocides being among the most common, and Singapore was no exception.
But since this OC is more about sexiness than it is actual history, I can’t count on that any time soon.
Alaster also has many scars on his back from being tortured by the Japanese soldiers who took him hostage. It should be obvious why Alaster has only the injuries, and Sasika doesn’t. (And if you don’t know, dumbass, it was because only men fought in the war back then… DUH! xD)
That is a horrible justification for the male depiction having a bunch of scars and the female not having scars! That’s implying that women didn’t suffer, and they definitely did suffer during WWII, and they so very much, especially in the occupied Southeast Asian nations!
He also wears the green band around his head to resemble what the bow on Sasika (also painfully obvious) So, I reaaaaaallllly love it~!! AND I HOPE YOU DO TOOOOOOO<3
No, I don’t. I hate it. And I hate you. And this is a huge trivialisation of what my forefathers went through in the war. There was totally no racial cleansing! No Japanese skewering babies on bayonets for fun! We totally didn’t suffer an economic plunge, and thousands of people did not starve to death. Noooo, everything’s kawaii and handshum and just FINE. Also, “Alaster” doesn’t look hot. At all. What’s anatomy again?
You should look at the rest of her gallery. She has a whitewashed Azerbaijan and Albania, lots of other slut!Singapores (I really want to flip tables now) and a lot of camwhoring. Her early draft of Singapore even made her have blue eyes and a stutter which made her seem weak. This is why we can’t ever have nice things.
WHAT.
It was even WORSE!?
WHAT.
This OC…I thought it wouldn’t be that awful…but I was proven wrong. Very, very wrong, indeed. There is almost no history, and the culture that is depicted is very small. The design of the OC seems to change more often than the OC creator changes socks, and even if it WERE consistent, it would be a bad design, anyway, because it’s very, very whitewashed.
And I think the submitter sums up the issue of how the OC creator handles the Japanese occupation and invasion of Singapore quite well.
So, overall…this OC is awful. Just…awful. It needs a SERIOUS revamp.

I have to say, I feel slightly offended. Especially on the appearance, because we Southeast Asians are quite conservative even in the clothes we wear. And brown and/or yellow is the common skin colour in this region. Even if I’m not a Singaporean, I do live nearby and pretty…
